The Hit to air this August!
Nicky is delighted to be co-presenting what promises to be the hottest music show of the summer – RTÉ’s songwriting talent show, ‘The Hit’. This brand new six-part TV series will be broadcast live from the O2, and will be on our screens in July.
The show stands out from other music programmes such as ‘The Voice’ because it puts the songwriters centre stage, instead of the singers.
‘The Hit’ will air in July, and Nicky is already excited. Speaking about the show, he said: “My Friday nights will have a whole new twist! I’m really looking forward to seeing what Irish songwriters have to offer. And I’m also eager to get back on the 02 stage – where I’ve enjoyed so many great shows in the past. But this one will be a whole new ball game!”
“When a show comes up like this, it’s an amazing opportunity. ‘The Hit’ is kind of based on that format where the songwriter is pitching to the artist.”
Nicky will be working alongside TV presenter Aidan Power, and the show will also feature five-time Grammy-award winning producer Steve Lillywhite. Legendary producer Lillywhite has helped to shape the sounds of bands such as U2, The Killers and the Rolling Stones.
During the show, songwriters will pitch their songs to two established music stars who they hope will pick their songs. In the final week, the 5 chosen songs will be performed before ‘The Hit’, the winning song is selected.
The best part is that it’s the audience and viewers who decide which songs go through to the final. At the end of each show, the two songs will immediately be released for download, and the songwriter and artist whose song charts the highest during the following week will then go into the big finale show in August.
