Strictly Come Dancing
Nicky joined the cast of the BBC reality show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in October 2012. The show saw 14 celebrities partner with professional dancers, to compete in a ballroom dancing competition. The public voted for their favourites with one couple being eliminated each week.
Nicky was partnered with Karen Hauer for the show, a professional dancer and choreographer. Some of Nicky and Karen’s most memorable weeks included dancing the Jive to ‘Jailhouse Rock’, and the Argentine Tango to Adel’s ‘Skyfall’. Week 3 also saw Nicky dance the Quickstep dressed as ‘The Mask’.
The profits from the telephone lines each week were donated to ‘Children in Need’, a charity Nicky is close to, having worked with them frequently in the past both with Westlife and on his own.
Nicky and Karen received their highest score in week 8 when they danced the Charleston to ‘Doop’, prompting judge Darcey Bussell to comment, “It was quirky, fun. Loved it. Very well done”. Nicky and Karen made it to the tenth week of the show, just missing out on a place in the semi-final.
Of his experience on the show, Nicky said, “It has been just so much fun. To come out every Saturday night is hard but it’s playing a different character, doing a different dance – it’s just been amazing!”
